GMB @ Tolpuddle 2024

GMB would like to invite you to the annual Tolpuddle Festival, which takes place in Dorset in July.

Every year Trade Unionists come together from across the country to celebrate the Tolpuddle Martyrs who were seen as the first Trade Unionists, being imprisoned and deported for standing up for their right to form a Union when it was at the time illegal.  Their sacrifice brought about a change in the law, thus enabling Trade Unions to exist legally in the United Kingdom.  More information on the festival can be found here.

GMB offers members (along with family and friends) the chance to holiday in Dorset and camp on our field opposite the main festival site for free for the week running up to the festival, from Wednesday 17th July.  We have warm showers and toilets on site, plus a marquee just in case the weather isn't as sunny as we'd like. There is plenty of room for tents as well as limited spots for campervans.

Access to the campsite is completely free for GMB members - all you need to pay for is your tickets to access the main festival, which you can do here.

Please note that the main road that runs through the village is completely closed off for the festival procession between 1pm and 6pm on the Sunday (21st July).  No vehicles will be allowed to enter or leave the site during this time.  If you know you're going to have to leave before 6pm, you'll need to park your car at the end of the village, beyond the road closure.  These are not our rules, they are dictated and enforced by the police, so there really is no leeway in this matter.
