Merton Living Wage Ballot

GMB launched a major campaign in Merton last year, seeking to address a long-standing injustice - that support staff in Merton schools are paid London Weighing at the Outer London rate and teaching staff in the same schools are paid the higher Inner London rate.

GMB has been trying to negotiate in good faith with Merton Council on this issue and have attended a number of meetings where they claim they have listened to us and wish to work with us on this. Unfortunately, we are yet to see any action or commitment. We are therefore moving towards an indicative ballot for strike action in the borough in order to show the council that we will not be silent on issues of unfairness and inequality.

An indicative ballot is not an official ballot, it is merely an indication that you wish to be balloted for strike action. This is however your opportunity to show Merton Council that talk is not good enough and that action must be taken to address the pressing needs of support staff in the borough.

Please vote using the below ballot form.  Your GMB membership number will have been included in the text or email that referred you here.

The ballot will remain open until 12 noon on Thursday 19th June.

The more people who vote, the stronger the message will be, so please make sure you and your colleagues participate.

Your Ballot Form

  • Do you wish to be formally balloted for industrial action over the lack of a formal offer on London Weighting? *:

  • I understand that GMB will not record how I have voted and are only asking for my membership number to ensure that only eligible members have voted and that nobody can vote more than once. *:
