“This is just another sign the academy system doesn’t help anyone but the fat cats” says GMB Union

GMB, the union for school staff, has responded to a study claiming most academy trusts are expected to be in the red by 2022. [1]

Karen Leonard, GMB National Officer, said: “Funding is tight for all schools.

“But academies are in an even worse position that the rest because of the excessive salaries paid to some CEOs and executive heads.

“They’re also more prone to outsourcing, which means contractors and private companies getting a cut of money that should be spent on resources, equipment and staff at the front line supporting pupils.

“This is just another sign the academy system doesn’t help anyone but the fat cats.

“It’s time for an injection of cash from the treasury, and a curb on excessive salaries at the top.”
