GMB to hold first of 3 demonstrations tomorrow against Frimley NHS Trust plans to privatise NHS staff and services. We will do everything in our power to stop the WOS and keep NHS workers where they belong - in the NHS, says GMB Southern

  • GMB, the union for NHS workers at Frimley NHS Trust will be holding 3 demonstrations over the coming weeks to protest the trusts plans to form a wholly owned subsidiary (WOS), the first of which will be held tomorrow (21 August).

The Trust are currently consulting unions about their plans to create a "wholly owned subsidiary", which is a private company – owned and run by the NHS Trust. The trust intends to transfer more than 1000 workers out of the NHS to work for this private company as well as looking at transferring over buildings and assets. [See notes to editors for previous GMB press releases]

GMB and their members oppose this transfer and believe all those providing essential NHS services should stay within the NHS family.

The demonstrations will take place on:

    Wednesday 21st August @ Wexham Park Hospital @ 12:30pm – 2.30pm
    Thursday 22nd August @ Frimley Park hospital @ 12.30pm -2.30pm
    Thursday 29th August @ Heatherwood Hospital @ 12.30pm-2.30pm

    Asia Allison, GMB Organiser said:

"Janet King and the Trust may not be listening but GMB are. Our members and concerned staff have said they wish to raise their objections to being privatised. With these 3 demos being just the start of the fight to protect NHS workers from future exploitation.

"The plans of a collective of rogues must not be allowed to treat dedicated staff so badly. Especially when one of them will benefit from a substantial salary for running the standalone company.

"GMB will do everything in our power to stop the WOS and keep NHS workers where they belong - in the NHS!

"If Neil Dardis wants to earn his NHS salary than he should remember the position of trust he was tasked with and stop privatising our NHS!"
