GMB members strike Wednesday and Thursday at Greenwich Primary School over staff cuts

GMB members will strike on Wednesday 28 June and Thursday 29 June at Greenwich Primary School over staff cuts

We will stand together to defend against the cuts says GMB Southern region

Support staff at Linton Mead Primary school in Thamesmead are to strike on Wednesday 28 June and Thursday 29 June. This is the second in a series of strikes as part of their continuing protest against staff cuts at the school.

There will be a picket outside the school gates from 7.30am onwards on 28 and 29 June highlighting job losses taking place at Linton Mead Primary School, Central Way, Thamesmead, SE28 8DT.

Further disruption is planned for July with the potential for more days of industrial action.

Industrial action arose out of a Re-Organisation Consultation that was first put forward on 7th March 2017.   The document put forward “two key factors” leading to an “unavoidable” need for a re-organisation.   The first was a potential drop in funding under government proposals, the second being the schools “Teaching and Learning Ethos” yet again cited that staffing structures were put in place at a time when funding was available.

Clive Smith, GMB regional officer said:

“Support staff at Linton Mead have made sure their message to the school and local authority has been heard loud and clear.

“At emergency talks on Monday it was also pointed out that the staffing numbers given in the consultation do not add up when compared with the structure the school has arrived at.  We believe they are short staffed.

“Despite this the school are still making one compulsory redundancy after seven staff accepted voluntary redundancy under duress.

“We will stand together to defend against the cuts.”
