“The painful lesson learned from the demise of Carillion, is that these assurances are only delivered when workers have collective voice through their union”, says GMB Southern

GMB have called the government and other bodies to learn the lessons from the collapse of Carillion by protecting the jobs and services provided by the workforce at Interserve.

Interserve, who provide the soft facilities management at Lewisham Hospital are currently involved in a rescue deal to restructure debts which have spiralled out of control. This is despite Interserve reaching a deal with its lenders for extended borrowing facility to £834m in March 2018.

Earlier this year UK's second-largest construction company Carillion collapsed under a £1.5bn debt pile.

Paul Maloney, GMB Regional Secretary said: "GMB is calling on the Government and all other bodies which have awarded contracts to Interserve for assurances about the futures of our members.

“However, the painful lesson learned from the demise of Carillion, is that these assurances are only delivered when workers have collective voice through their union.

GMB wants to:

Protect your job

Protect your Terms and Conditions of Employment

Protect your Pension

“GMB will continue to monitor the situation, provide officers and local workplace organisers with information and advice in order to safeguard jobs, terms and conditions and pensions.”
