Bromley parking wardens begin talks in fight against poverty pay

On Tuesday [19 August] GMB Union will sit down with Apcoa Parking, the private contractor running parking services for Bromley Council.

Workers there are currently paid the legal minimum wage of £12.21 per hour – well below the London Living Wage of £13.85 an hour.

The talks come while Apcoa is embroiled in ongoing disputes with GMB members in neighbouring Richmond, Wandsworth, and Kingston.

In Lambeth, Apcoa workers recently settled their dispute after securing a new rate of £15 per hour.

Craig Prickett, GMB Regional Organiser, said:

“GMB members in Bromley do a vital job keeping the borough running, yet they are handed poverty pay in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

“These workers aren’t asking for the earth - they just want fair pay for the work they do, like their colleagues in Lambeth have now achieved.

“We’re entering talks in good faith, but our members deserve nothing less than pay that allows them to live with dignity.

“Apcoa can avoid another dispute here by making a fair, serious offer from the outset.”
