GMB Wandsworth and Battersea Labour jointly held a "Roots & Future" Event to mark Black History Month

Despite the rain all day, the event was well attended by comrades from the Labour Party, fellow employees and members and people from the Community. GMB were able to count approximately 70 people. The event was welcomed by Marsha de Cordova, MP for Battersea and Shadow Minister for Disabled People who spoke about Black Heroes past and present.

Black Minds Matter then performed. They are a group of youths who highlighted and presented a performance surrounding issues that affect young black adults. They were extremely inspiring and their performance was awesome

The Panel was chaired by Maurice McLeod - Councillor and Writer

The Panel consisted of Maya Goodfellow -Guardian Writer and Author

Nadia Syed from Stand Up to Racism

Katrina Ffrench from Stopwatch

Patrick Vernon - Historian

Lee Jasper- Former Deputy Mayor of London

The above Panel was excellent and discussed historical events to where we are now, some of the topics discussed were education, austerity, knife crime, policing, stress and the workplace and how to improve working collectively.
