GREENWICH SCHOOL AND COUNCIL STAFF PROTEST OVER UNFAIR LONDON WEIGHTING

Where: Woolwich Town Hall, Wellington Street, Woolwich SE18 6PW

When: Wednesday 21 February 2024 at 5.45pm (until 6.30pm)

School support staff and council staff will stage a mass protest outside a Royal Borough of Greenwich Council meeting tomorrow [Wednesday].

Workers are angry over the unfair allocation of London Weighting payments in the borough, which means school support staff and council employees receive outer London weighting - yet teachers, often working in the same schools, are paid the higher inner London weighting.

Stuart Fegan, GMB Senior Organiser, said:

“This mass protest is purely about fairness.

“School staff in Greenwich schools are paid the lower Outer London Weighting as they work alongside teachers who are paid higher Inner London Weighting.

“School support staff are low paid, disproportionately women and workers of colour – it's unjust to drive them further into poverty with unfair lower London weighting.

“If Greenwich schools are Inner London for teachers, then they must be Inner London for school support staff and council staff too.

“Greenwich residents know first-hand how expensive it is to live in the Royal Borough.

“GMB is calling on the council to rectify this long running unfairness and make sure all council workers are paid inner London weighting.”
