‘DEFIANT’ HOSPITAL WORKERS PLAN FURTHER PROTESTS OVER PAY AND SICK PAY
Outsourced Lewisham Hospital workers determined to win adequate sick pay and the London Living Wage, says GMB
As part of an ongoing campaign, GMB members at Lewisham Hospital will stage two demonstrations tomorrow [Thursday 19 March].
Domestic, portering and catering staff who have been outsourced to transnational company ISS will protest outside the hospital main entrance at 12noon and then again at 2pm.
They are demanding the London Living Wage as well as an adequate sick pay scheme in a GMB campaign, which has already seen them hold three lunchtime demos.
Helen O’Connor, GMB Membership Development Officer said:
“GMB members are reporting that they have suffered victimisation for asserting their lawful right to engage in collective trade union activity.
“In spite of endemic bullying and harassment, these defiant workers are determined to continue their campaign to secure fair pay and conditions.
“If our members don’t secure their demands they will be balloted for strike action.
“Our message to ISS and the trust is play fair and give them the pay and conditions they need and deserve so that they can continue to provide life-saving services to the patients of Lewisham Hospital.”
