Bromley Council Parking Wardens set for strike ballot

Bromley the latest council to see staff employed by APCOA threaten action over low pay
GMB members working as parking wardens across the London Borough of Bromley have indicated an intention to escalate to a formal industrial action ballot over low pay.
Just like colleagues across other London Boroughs, their employer APCOA have offered an hourly wage of £12.71, which is far below what they feel is acceptable given current cost of living increases.
The members have previously showed strong support for taking action in a consultative ballot and they feel the company’s latest offer does not reflect the essential public service they provide on behalf of Bromley Council.
Craig Prickett, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
“Our members are angry, frustrated and determined not to be taken for granted.
“They keep Bromley’s streets safe and services running, yet they’re being offered crumbs.
“We would remind the public that, should industrial action be confirmed, a reduced number of Civil Enforcement Officers on the streets would mean fewer tickets being issued, more drivers parking illegally and also reduced revenue for Bromley Council.
“APCOA must come back with a meaningful offer and Bromley Council, who oversee this contract, have the influence to make that happen.
“If APCOA cannot or will not pay a fair wage, then Bromley should seriously consider taking this service back in-house to ensure it is run in the public interest.
“It is essential that Bromley Council - and local residents - hold APCOA accountable for the financial and public safety consequences of failing to resolve this dispute.”
