GMB members set for strike action voted overwhelmingly to accept third new pay offer

Refuse workers in Dartford have voted to accept a pay rise which concludes their dispute and ends the threat of strike action.

The members are employed by FCC Environment and have accepted on a vote of 94 per cent this new, improved pay offer.

The agreement delivers a series of percentage pay increases over the next two years, providing certainty and stability for workers while moving rates further away from the minimum wage and closer to industry standards.

Taken together, the package represents an increase of around 10 per cent across the period.

Craig Prickett, GMB Regional Organiser, said:

“GMB members at FCC Dartford have made a collective decision to accept this improved offer, thus ending the threat of strike action.

“The agreement delivers real pay increases, staged improvements and certainty going forward, and was achieved because throughout this process, our members have been clear about the value of their work and the responsibility they carry every day.

“The public will be relieved that their bins will continue to be emptied, not least because they recognise the vital but dirty, physically demanding and dangerous job that our members carry out every day, come rain or shine.”
