Countless customers from across Brighton will be hoping to buy barbecue and picnic supplies; they’ll now have to cross a picket line to do so

More than 100 workers at Asda’s Brighton Hollingbury superstore are set to down tools from 20:00 on Friday 24 May until 15:00 on Saturday 25 May, with a demonstration and photocall between 12:00 and 13:00 on Saturday.

If you can, come and join us outside Asda Brighton Hollingbury, Unit 1 Crowhurst Road, Off Carden Avenue, Brighton BN1 8AS to show support for these workers.

Members of GMB, the union for Asda, voted to take action this weekend over a number of workplace issues, including:

  • Cuts in hours

  • Poor quality training

  • Health and safety issues not being addressed

  • Pressured work rates

  • Payroll issues and incorrect pay

  • Equal pay not resolved in a timely manner

  • No collective bargaining with GMB

Declan MacIntyre, GMB Regional Organiser said:

“GMB has appealed to Asda management to meet us and try and avert this strike.

“They’ve not met with us - so this industrial action will be interrupting the store over the Bank Holiday weekend.

“Countless customers from across Brighton will be hoping to buy barbecue and picnic supplies; they’ll now have to cross a picket line to do so.

“If Asda head honchos are having their purse strings held tight by their financial backers, this is only what GMB have been warning for months.”
