GMB TEAMS VOLUNTEER WITH WORKERS BEER COMPANY TO BUY NEW MINIBUS
GMB Southern Region members have worked at a number of music festivals this year to raise funds to buy a new minibus for the Southern Region. In return for working a 6 hour shift behind the bars each day volunteers received free entry to the event, secure camping, food and drinks vouchers and most importantly hot showers!
This year over 50 volunteers from the GMB Southern Region worked at festivals such as Glastonbury, Lattitude, Hop Farm, Reading and Proms in the Park, and over the last two years have been able to raise enough money to buy a new minibus for the region which will be based at the Brighton office.
The group was able to use the minibus for the first time to travel to Reading Festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend where they were able to see a lineup which included Kings of Leon, Artic Monkeys, Radiohead, Prodigy and Placebo.
Rob Macey, GMB Brighton Organiser said: ‘The Workers Beer Company is a great way for members of Trade Union and Campaigning groups to raise funds to support their organisations. The Company is owned by the Battersea and Wandsworth TUC and so all of the proceeds are fed back into the trade union movement instead of going to private profit.’
If any member is interested in volunteering for next years events please register on the ‘GMB Southern Region Teams’ facebook group or contact Rob Macey at the Brighton Office on Rob.Macey@gmb.org.uk or 01273 570126.
